The New Virts -- P1 Deck
The Virtuoso P1 Deck
If you follow The Virts on Instagram, you probably have already heard the news... the new Virtuoso P1 deck is now available for pre-order to those who subscribed to be apart of the Virts Family. This is their newest deck since releasing the Virtuoso FW17 back in 2017. For those who are in love with the Virtuoso designs (like myself), this is extremely exciting news.
This special edition deck comes with a generous offer... that is: you can pre-order this deck for free and only pay for the shipping cost. I expect most people who are subscribed to their "exclusive" newsletters are going to buy more than just one deck for $19 (not including shipping). However, I have to give Huron and his team props for this genius marketing strategy, as many Virt family members are going to start buying this decks by the brick to sell in the future. This deck will go for $22 once the pre-order launch ends in 3 days.
Now, the most important question arises...
What is this new deck going to do to the price of the earlier releases?
I can only expect that as soon as those pre-order decks arrive in January 2021 to the thousands of buyers who ordered them that every other earlier addition is going to quickly rise in value... including the FW17's. Let's look at the current market value of our earlier editions:
Note: These are rough estimates of the value accounting for shipping, taxes, and listing fees...
FW17 : +/- $17.00 USD
SS16 : +/- $40.00 USD
SS15 : +/- $55.00 USD
SS14: +/- $70.00 USD
Launch Edition SS13: +/- $150 USD
My best guess is that the FW17's are going to quickly rise in value from roughly $17.00 USD to upwards of $30.00 USD by the middle of 2021 after the P1 release. That means all earlier versions are also going to quickly sky rocket in price... especially the earliest two decks. With that in mind, the Launch Edition deck is probably going to be roughly $200 to $250 USD very soon after the new release.
As I've been scrambling to get my hands on the last few Virts decks in my collection, I'm finding it EXTREMELY difficult to find the SS14's and Launch Edition anywhere on the market.
My guess is that:
1. There are still very limited quantities of these earlier decks...
and...
2. Sellers are holding onto these decks for pre-orders to arrive in January 2021 so that they can mark up their prices.
I'm sure, right about now, those who already sold several (or even dozens) of their Virts are kicking themselves with this new release... because no one was really expecting that there would be any new Virtuoso decks being released given that it's been three years since their last launch. The Virts decks came out yearly from 2013 to 2017... we all thought this was the end.
So here's a piece of advice to those who are holding onto their sealed decks or are currently looking to buy some (to sell in the future):
1. Be patient. Wait until the P1 Special Edition decks come out on the market. Assess the price of each earlier version on eBay and then determine whether you want to put it out on the market right away. It's not extremely likely that there will be more releases of the Virts in the coming years, so I expect that the new elevated value of the older versions are going to remain relatively stable for a few years... until quantities start running low.
2. Buy those older versions NOW. If you want to sell them in the future, this is the best price you're going to get. Even if you don't plan on selling and just want some of these "hype decks", you have to jump on this opportunity ASAP before they get to be more and more expensive. BUY THEM BEFORE DECEMBER.
3. Get at least two P1 decks. One to open, one to sell. Even if you're not a seasoned seller who's hoarding hundreds of decks, grab one that's sealed. The price of the P1's are going to rise once they're sold out on The Virts' website... just like with the FW17's. Several years from now, the P1's are going to be limited in quantity, and as the trend for Cardistry decks continues to rise in popularity, new collectors are going to want these.
The market for playing cards is unpredictable in all honesty. As I've been doing research on popular Cardistry decks, I'm always surprised by certain decks that sky rocket in value as more new series are released. I can only make these assessments based off patterns I have seen with this specific brand. However, the market pattern for the Virts has remained pretty consistent over the years.
